The first fully autonomous vehicle will start operating in Portugal this week, connecting the Nova School of Business & Economics (Nova SBE) to the Lombos roundabout, next to Carcavelos beach, in Cascais, and Ageas Seguros is its official Insurance Company.
The vehicle, similar to a van, will have capacity for 15/16 passengers per route and, in initially, will make the connection between the university and the beach, a route of nearly one km. Subsequently, the autonomous vehicle will connect the Nova SBE campus and the Carcavelos station, a route of 1,5 km.
José Gomes, CEO of Non-Life of Grupo Ageas Portugal, refers that "this is the first step of Ageas Seguros in approaching a new paradigm for insurance companies. This is our way of showing, by being the first in the market to offer this kind of solutions, that we are in the forefront of the (insurance) market when it comes to adapting to new realities and trends".
